Indonesian Pharmacy Association Day is celebrated on February 13 every year. In 2021, Indonesian pharmacy is entering its 75th year, of course not a young age anymore. So there will be more things that can be given, especially in terms of its history.

Pharmacy itself comes from the Greek word Pharmacon which means Medicine. Pharmacy is one of the important professions in every country, including Indonesia. This is because pharmacy is one of the professional fields in health workers who are responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and safety of using certain drugs.

The first and oldest Pharmaceutical Organization in Indonesia or abbreviated as (PAFI) Indonesian Pharmacist Association, is a professional organization where professional pharmacy experts of Pharmacist Assistants (AA) throughout Indonesia gather. Since its establishment in 1946, this organization has been tasked with accommodating the profession of assistant pharmacists or pharmaceutical technical personnel (TTK).

Pharmacy Assistants are healthcare professionals who are responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and safety of drug use, which is a combination of medical science and chemistry.

The profession of Pharmacist Assistant itself was formed before the profession of Pharmacist, this happened because during the Dutch colonial government, only Pharmacist Assistant education could be carried out and even its pioneers had to be educated directly from the Netherlands.

The history of PAFI is closely related to the history of the Republic of Indonesia. Exactly 6 months after the Proclamation of Independence, namely on February 13, 1946, pharmaceutical experts gathered at the Merdeka Hotel Yogyakarta, the meeting resulted in the appointment of Mr. Zainal Abidin as Chairman of PAFI for the initial period of PAFI's establishment.

PAFI has a mission to combat illegal drugs, prevent drug abuse and incorrect use of drugs, foster coordination and cooperation with other Health Professional Organizations in order to achieve the highest level of public health, and uphold morals and codes of ethics.

The journey of Indonesian Pharmacy continues to improve in improving quality and increasing human resources that can handle it. Through its long journey, Indonesian Pharmacy has proven that they can provide a very important and large role, towards the struggle of the Indonesian nation.
